A Cool Doctor? And he's on the radio!

So some of you may remember years ago there used to be a radio show on in all Australian capital cities called "Dr Feelgood" it was an informal sort of chat show about sex & lifestyle and for years it was very very popular. Since it's demise we haven't really had a show like this.

But as I am an avid nerd for the net I finally love the fact KROQ radio in LA now stream so I can listen to what "DR Feelgood" was based on. Loveline - this show has been on for years and is networked all over the united states, it usually runs in a late night time slot, but here you can stream it live in the afternoons and hear really interesting callers & facts about medical stuff. Some of it rather racey, though educational at the same time.

To make this show even more cooler than it already is, he has celeb guests from rock stars to comedians and actors who add a very interesting twist to the callers. so every afternoon from 3pm have a listen online you will love it, if you listen in tell me here is the link Kroq LA click on the listen now link and the feed is very clear they stream at 100k, if you can't stream it you can subscribe to loveline on iTunes they update it daily, and the callers are killer. It seriously is the most entertaining radio I have heard in years.

Quitting smoking - The man way!

So here is the deal, I quit smoking 2 weeks ago, and I haven't had one since the day I quit....But the great thing is that I did it cold turkey. Look I am not one of those Nazi former smokers that are gonna say"yuck that's a bad habit" The simple fact is that if you wanna smoke, go for it!!! I still love the smell. But cold turkey!! Yeah, I rule!

Last time I quit- me & my flatmate did it together and we both used Zyban.......Bad idea kids, it sent him psycho and I had hardcore dirty dreams about Hayley from work..Like something you could buy in the Netherlands hardcore..LOL I told her about this and she found it rather amusing, although equally as disturbing.

My mate Matt recently quit using patches....But he is weak and desperate for girlfriend so we can forgive him. So if you wanna quit go for it, but you have to make that desicision yourself, don't let anyone pressure you into it. Call quitline for advice they are great. But I did it my way and it seems to be working, yes I have had cravings, but have never given in. Why? Cause I rule!!

Local Venue's - Need a kick in the Ass!!!!

In recent times I have had the chance to meet some very talented young bands here on the coast as part of my Friday Live radio segment where a local act comes in and does a few tunes. But something has made this experience rather bittersweet, while there are bands out there slogging it to get somewhere, there are not many venues willing to support local original music. And to make that fact even worse, it pays better to be cover band.

While there are a few notable places who support local music like the Sands Tavern, Sol Bar Coolum, Woombye Pub & Kawana Surf Club. There are many that just refuse which is a sad statement to say the least. Then on top of that if these un-named venues don’t say no they expect you to have 20 million in public liability which is a disgrace in itself, I am sorry is I was in a band and had a day job where am I going to find the cash to buy 20 million liability cover?

But here is a sweet thing to remember down the track, Let me associate it with something familiar to most, when I was a kid we never had much cash so instead of the real Reef sandals that were cool when I was 15 I had the dodgy pair from Kmart A chick I went to school with saw me in these one weekend in a record store in Caloundra and called me a “povo” which was hurtful, so a few years ago when I was living in Sydney and had a rather high profile radio show, she saw me in a café with some friends, she came over and was all like “oh my god I went to school with you – I love your show – we should get together sometime” I was like as if! you were cruel to me in school why do I want to be your friend? She was not impressed,

So that’s the lesson for you, if a venue says NO now or plays tricks on you…don’t let it get you down. Just keep going, make it to the big time, and when your famous and they try to book you for a show….tell em’ to get stuffed. But remember where you came from, if it wasn’t for the people that loved your awkward guitar playing or your almost perfect drumming at those private house parties you wouldn’t be the person you are today.

Brisbane guys Intercooler will appear live on the show Friday as we take the show LIVE to ZINK bar Mooloolaba. They have a show at Sol bar Coolum that same night, so be sure to see them, or come meet them in the flesh between 7 & 8 @ Zink bar. These guys are signed to a great Brisbane Indie Label called +1 records, run buy the guys who own Skinny's in Brisbane...where i used to buy a ton of records when i was a kid travelling down on the train...so in exchange for my music education from skinny's i am more than happy to pay back the favour by playing & talking to their bands...but i digress, be there friday to see them.

LOSS OF AUTONOMY - LIVE JUNE 23

loss of Autonomy are a local sunny coast band who are gonna play the show live on Friday June 23. I got an e-mail from Elliot who is in the band asking how they get on Friday live..Easy you just did!!!

And it is good to see there enthusiastic about being on the show too which is something I love to see. JaXn one of the guys in the band has hair that will make you look twice, maybe 3 times, seriously it is massive...What I liked about these guys from the get go, was that they wanted to be on the show to get their music our there which is hard on the coast considering the lack of venues willing to host bands with original material. So we try to help as much as possible. But here is a polar opposite for you.

One thing I have noticed from a few local bands here & there (and very rarely I might add) is that some of these guys think there massive rock stars....Get over it pal! The radio clearly isn't good enough for them...

But seriously if you wanna be on the show it's easy...Just ask me I will probably say yes stay tuned for Loss Of Autonomy....These guys are great. JUNE 23 Lock it in....
